5.8...that's pretty great!

Ok lame title, sorry. But anywho, we here in southern Cali experienced a rude awakening this morning at 11:42...A HUGE earthquake!! It was a 5.8! Holy crap!! I was just sitting in my room quietly reading a book and then BOOM! My entire house started shaking like crazy! It was the freakiest thing!! That was the largest earthquake i have ever experienced!

How did you react to the earthquake?

a couple thoughts on my saturday...

thought numero uno:
i really, really love the song The Grateful. It is now my favorite song. The words for some reason are amazing to me!

We are the grateful,
sing of your love, sing of your mercy
we are the grateful, the grateful ones

We are the grateful
sing of your power, sing of your kindness,
we are the grateful, the grateful ones
the grateful ones

thought numero dos:
i am going to make a challenge to myself. This challenge is for me to meet new people at service who either seem lonely, new to church, or i have just ever seen them before. The reason I am going to do this is because this happened to me tonight. After everyone was gone or just leaving the Refinery, i was still waiting for my parents. So i was sitting up on a rock by myself. Then, a couple of older kids were walking by me probably leaving. They decided to stop by me and say hello and introduce themselves (i only knew one of them, kinda) and ask me who i was and just start a mini conversation. (they had no idea who i was) This made my night actually. To know that even kids like this who don't even know me would take the time to walk up and talk to a complete stranger just opened my eyes. I mean if i liked it so much, just think how someone who has NEVER been to the church feel. (AMAZING) So, i am challenging myself every week to say hello to an unfamiliar face and learn their name, and hopefully remember it and see them the next weekend.

I challenge you to do the same (if you don't already)

:)

Be very careful what you wear...

So last night i was at the Spectrum. And apparently when i got there, it was like an hour before the Jonas Brothers concert right across the street at the Verizon Amphitheater. When we were walking around, you could totally tell which people were going to the concert and which ones were not (by the obvious clothes that had pictures of the Jonas Brothers all over them that said, NICK MARRY ME!! or I'M BURNIN' UP FOR YOU JOE!!) OK you get the point...

And then there was me walking around with my parents. I was wearing a t-shirt, vest, and jeans. Now, notice how i put the word vest in bold. Apparently this is what makes people think, "Oh my gosh is he going to the concert!!??" Because throughout that night, people kept on asking me "Oh my gosh are you going to the concert!!??" My response was "Heck no!!!"

Lesson: Never wear "matching" clothes or "similar" clothes to the Jonas Brothers on the night of their concert.

the best part about 4th of July

is walking down stairs and seeing this on your tv screen:

yup that's right, the Nathan's World Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.  It is televised on ESPN every single 4th of July. This year had to be the most exciting. They only had 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as possible (where in previous years they had 12 minutes). The winner 2 years ago was Takeru Kobayashi (aka The Tsunami; who had won in the previous like 6 years). Last year, Joey Chestnut was the winner with 66 hot dogs. So like i said, they only had 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as possible. It was super exciting! It turned out to be that both dudes ate 59 hot dogs. So that meant a tie. It was called for a "Five Dog Eat Off." whoever ate five hot dogs the fastest, would be the winner. It was very intense. So, the defending champion Joey Chestnut won.

How about that for a 4th of July celebration with your family?!
